Appeal for Action - Legislative Campaigns to Support

The following are current campaigns on which CCHR is working and needs your help.

Child Labeling and Drugging

Over 8 million children in the U.S. have been diagnosed with so-called mental disorders and prescribed cocaine-like stimulants and powerful antidepressants as treatment. CCHR has worked with grass roots organizations to support legislation that protects the rights of parents and children to make their own decisions. Coercive Psychiatric Treatments and Involuntary Commitment

Article 5 of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, "No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders — DSM

None of the 374 diagnoses are supported by scientific evidence of biological disease or mental illness of any kind.

Elderly Abuse

The last thing a fragile, anxious or vulnerable elderly person needs is the additional physical and mental stress associated with heavy, addictive psychiatric drugs.

Electroconvulsive "Therapy" (ECT) and psychosurgery

Despite legislative bans and laws limiting its use, ECT is still practiced today on more than 100,000 Americans each year.

Mental Health Parity

Mental health parity is an effort by the mental health industry to have governments force insurers, employers, consumers and taxpayers to pay for psychiatric diagnoses on the same terms as standard medical diagnoses. However, none of the 374 mental disorders in the DSM should be eligible for insurance coverage because they have no scientific, physical validation. Insurance coverage should only be given for proven, workable treatments that verifiably and dramatically improve or cure mental health problems.

Mental Health Screening

To prohibit the use of Federal funds for any universal mental health screening program
