Defending Parental Rights in Kazakhstan

CCHR Kazakhstan fights back, protecting children and families from potential psychiatric abuses.
CCHR Kazakhstan alerted legislators to mental health clauses in a proposed law that could have subjected parents and children to psychiatric abuse.
CCHR Kazakhstan alerted legislators to mental health clauses in a proposed law that could have subjected parents and children to psychiatric abuse.

Following a letter from the President of Kazakhstan on the rise of domestic violence in the nation, six Members of Parliament drafted a bill.

While protective measures were needed, CCHR Kazakhstan saw a bigger threat from the proposed bill: a likely increase in psychiatric abuses in the field of mental health. Specifically, children could be sent to psychiatric facilities and administered dangerous psychotropic drugs without parental consent. And another clause implied children could be turned over to foster care facilities known for using punitive measures along with psychotropic drugs.

CCHR volunteers immediately held a series of meetings and presentations with governmental representatives and media to enlighten them on the risks of ratifying the bill. CCHR and allied groups gathered more than 50,000 in-person signatures and letters calling for the President to revoke it. CCHR launched a social media campaign that educated over two million people on the negative repercussions the bill would have on children and families.

Finally, CCHR met with the six MPs who initiated the bill. Persuaded by the data and the public outcry, the MPs wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Mazhilis—the lower house of the Parliament of Kazakhstan—requesting the bill be revoked. This was enough for the Speaker, who declared the bill canceled, marking one more win for children and families.

WE REALLY WANT TO hear FROM YOU

After touring the Industry of Death Traveling Exhibit, this is what people had to say:

AUNT, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

“I never agreed with psychiatric drugging of children. My niece was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of seven and was put on medication. She basically became a zombie—she wouldn’t play with the kids at school anymore and she just started isolating herself. I told my brother (her father) that he needed to take her off of it, which luckily he did. I’m definitely going to be sharing the information on CCHR I received today with my brother.”

STUDENT, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

“The exhibit was mind-blowing. I felt so sad for all the people who have been through this experience. I was disturbed about ECT and surgical treatments. On the documentary about children, I was surprised they do this to those young kids. People should be made aware of actual diseases rather than these fake ones and troubling treatments.”

INDIVIDUAL, NEW YORK CITY, USA

“This exhibit is amazing, full of knowledge and very eye-opening. Before seeing this information, I always thought psychiatry was here to help us. Now I can’t believe I fell for this scam all my life! I will spread this news like a wildfire and stop everyone I know from taking unnecessary meds. I feel very touched emotionally from this exhibit tour. Everyone needs to come to see this!”

FRIEND OF PSYCH CASUALTY, TORONTO, CANADA

“While I’ve never had any mental health issues myself or in my family, I always knew in the back of my mind that something was wrong with psychiatry. It was just not in my face yet. Then recently a good friend of mine ended up in psychiatric hands and he’s not happy and I’m not happy with how things are progressing. Now I have something I can act on to help him. I cannot thank you enough for being here.”
